If you are planning to visit this beautiful part of Kent, you will want to know where to stay, what there is to see, what events might coincide with your planned visit, and how you can get around?

We offer you several places to start but don’t make recommendations for places to stay.

The websites below are a mix of civic and tourism websites alongside some village and parish websites that may inspire you when choosing where to travel.

Local to Lynsted

  • Lynsted with Kingsdown Society Website: describes the Parish that sits between the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that is the North Downs and the historic creeks of the Swale.  The Society also runs several events of wider interest.
  • Lynsted Community Orchard: A peaceful haven that does support the occasional event, usually reflecting the environment and historic association with fruit growing.
  • If visiting the area a very local B&B to the south of the village that enjoys a good reputation is Dadmans or check this link for other places around Faversham.

Local to Swale - Things to do, places to stay

Some specifics to consider:

Local to the South East and Kent

Rural Ways Website: aims to promote the South East as a leading tourist destination -  Horseriding? Walking and cycling?  Worth a browse for ideas of things to do.

RSPB Reserves are fascinating throughout the year - this link highlights those in the Southeast

Peter Meiklejohn’s collection of Kentish oddities to visit - as a contribution to the Association of Kentish Men and Men of Kent

Kent Countryside Access: Kent tourism promotion as part of “Rural Ways” - supported by by Government Office South East

Goodnestone Park Gardens: Absolutely delightful and tranquil gardens within relatively easy reach (the other side of Canterbury) and worth the price of the entrance.  Also worth checking for events (concerts, theatre, exhibitions). Their Golden Arboretum is a picnic ground overlooked by the church tower, secluded and peaceful.

Beech Court Gardens: High up on the North Downs (near Challock), undulating lawns, arboretum, all season of interest. March to September

Moving to the Area?

  • What is the neighbourhood like? This website gives a fascinating (but very approximate) view of yourself and your neighbours...... Or want to find out the price of houses in your area? Another view from “Up my street”.
  • Land Registry Data gives you an idea of latest house price ranges. For example, the figures in November 2005 have been reproduced here.  School performance tables can be found here also.
  • Neighbourhood Statistics - housing, healthcare, crime, economic activity (To use Government Site, you will need to allow ‘pop ups’ for the national statistics website - How do I do that?)
  • NEW Swale Borough Council is poor on its use of brownfield sites, so urban sprawl in some areas is becoming a reality - CPRE Report

Local data on tides, saving energy, flood help (see our “flood map” and guidance on local pollution), environmental protection, air quality checks and weather services, solar grants, weather for light aircraft owners? What about holidays in our forests? All in one Government online services website

Local Weather? They never agree, so here are two links for Sittingbourne area
