We invited you to come along to our “Mediaeval Fete and Dog Show” on August Bank Holiday Monday to enjoy all the fun of a “traditional” fete and more! .... and you came in your droves! So, thank you again for your generous support of our traditional fete.
The traditional stalls this year were supplemented by several new ideas, including throwing wet sponges at people in the stocks, and ..... maggot racing (very popular!). Our ever popular storyteller entertained children and adults alike alongside ‘Mr Mystery’ our magician and Punch and Judy man. Refreshments included a constant flow of tea and alcoholic beverages (that needed emergency reinforcements due to the heat of the day). Our BBQ also featured lamb pitas, made possible by the donation by Duncan Anderson of his own lamb. And never to forget our local jazz band, Derek and His Music.
A completely new departure (thanks to the organisation of Fiona Jones, the judging by our local vet, John Flanagan, and prizes provided by Gillett Cook, local tack shop and animal feed). Forty dogs took part in five categories for two classes - small and large.
Prizes were given for the dog most like its owner; the dog with the biggest smile; the politest dog; the dog with the waggiest tail; and the dog with the most doleful eyes. All being well, we plan to repeat that show and give it more space to cope with the dogs and crowds it attracted.
