The News Letter was started in 1977 by the late Bill Hill who was Vicar of Lynsted-with-Kingsdown and Rector of Norton from 1976 until 1987. It is published monthly in an A5 format and runs to around 70 pages.
It is distributed free to every household in the parishes of Lynsted with Kingsdown and Norton who find it invaluable for keeping them up to date on coming events and for its directory of local service providers. Many ex-parishioners living elsewhere locally, and those who have moved further away (most of whom contribute to the cost of the postage) are also on its circulation. It also goes out to the local newspapers and other interested organisations, to the MP and to the advertisers without whom the publication in its present form would not be possible.
The publication contains news of what is going on in the parishes and notices of forthcoming events as well as interesting articles and comments provided by the readers. It also contains a lot of local information including a ‘Shoppers’ Guide to goods and services available. It is financed by, revenue from the advertising; grants from the Lynsted with Kingsdown Parish Council, the Norton Buckland and Stone Parish Council, and the Kent County Council; and from unsolicited donations from grateful recipients. No charge, however, is made for the copies distributed.
The newsletter is only available electronically on request to those whose systems are compatible with Microsoft Publisher 2007 or later. If you are interested in receiving the newsletter, email newsletter@lynsted.com giving details of your preferred Microsoft Publisher version.
How you can contribute?
The deadline for copy is given in the timetable below. The News Letter contains details for most of the local organisations it knows about and receives regular contributions from many of them. The Editor is always happy to hear of other organisations relevant to the two parishes and to include the appropriate details and to receive any articles or ‘snippets’ that the contributor may feel to be of interest to the readers. Copy should be sent to newsletter@lynsted.com
It is hopefully delivered ready for circulation to our team of deliverers in the two parishes around the last Sunday of the calendar month.
Can I advertise in the newsletter?
Advertising: Those wishing to advertise their business or commercial service in the News letter should contact Mike Trim.
Additional Note (September 2009): For convenience we prefer to limit each edition of the News Letter to a maximum of 84 pages - dictated by the size of the editor’s dining room where many of the teams do the collating as well as our ability to staple and fold any more pages. The continuing success of our advertising is putting pressure on the space devoted to editorial matters so, to achieve a balance, we are at the moment limiting new advertisers to a maximum of half a page within the text. From time to time spaces do come free on the cover - currently (September 2009), there is one-eighth of a page space available on the inside cover. Existing advertisers will always have priority.
