A Government Web Site that walks you through how to remain safe on-line - extremely useful and you take each step at your pace.  Videos and examples are good. http://www.getsafeonline.org/

TELEPHONE COLD-CALLING SCAM SUGGESTS YOU HAVE VIRUSES

Recently, several friends have received telephone ‘cold-calls’ from scammers pretending to be Microsoft workers who then tried to trick them into downloading information-stealing trojans and other malware or handing over credit card details to purchase rogue computer security software.
DO NOT BECOME A VICTIM - JUST PUT THE PHONE DOWN
- The scammer will tick you off their list
and move onto the next number in their list -

Guardian article from 2010.
Microsoft advice can be seen here (they will NEVER make unsolicited calls).

Many people do not feel confident in using this number, but it should always be used in any case
    • where life or property is at risk,
    • where anyone is likely to be harmed or if you witness a crime in progress.
  • ON LESS URGENT ISSUES: use 01622 690690. This number is also for the reporting of crimes that are not recent.
If your concerns do not require an emergency response - use the more flexible 101 number.

  • WEB SITE: Telephone aside, you are also able to contact your local officers on the Kent Police Website - www.kent.police.uk where links to contact local officers are present, along with a list of your priorities set for the area can be viewed.

More general advice on contacting the police: The Parish Council web site keeps up to date what they are doing with the police on specific issues.  The Parish Council reminds us that Kent Police Officers urge all residents to contact police when needed.
