Making your own Togas from bed-sheets

Here are a couple of videos we found quickly on the internet - if you find better ones, please let us know!  The bigger the flat sheet, the better effect you will get.

http://video.about.com/entertaining/Make-a-Toga-Out-of-a-Sheet.htm or the same video on U-Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxfLaEBJ83Q

We also found several typed instructions!

Version 1

Things You'll Need

  • Flat bed sheet
  • Safety pins
  • Belt

  1. Hold the corner of a top flat bed sheet in one hand. Grasp the sheet with your other hand, leaving about 6 inches between the corner of the sheet and your hand. Bring the sheet across the front of your body without letting go of the corner.
  2. Raise your opposite arm, bending your elbow at a 90-degree angle. Drape the sheet over the front of this arm, then bring it between your body and arm, near your armpit.
  3. Wrap the sheet around your back. Tuck the sheet under your other armpit with your other hand. Make sure the sheet fits snugly. If you feel like you're going to lose your toga halfway through the night, draw it more tightly around you.
  4. Tie the 2 exposed corners of the bed sheet in a knot. The knot should rest on top of one of your shoulders. You might have to adjust the sheet to move the knot into the right place.
  5. Wrap a bathrobe belt around the toga if the sheet is too long. Pull the sheet up until the bottom is the correct length (about mid-calf) and tie the belt. Smooth the top of the sheet down over the belt so that it can't be seen.

Version 2 - men and women

Things You'll Need

  • 2 bed sheets
  • Safety pins
  • 2 shower rings
  • Belt

Making a Toga for Men

  1. Wrap a bed sheet around your torso one to two times depending on your body size. The sheet is wrapped around your body sufficiently when you still have enough excess fabric to wrap once around your shoulder and back down to your waist.
  2. Secure the wrapped sheet around your torso with two safety pins. Place one at the top of the sheet and one at the bottom where you wrapped it around your torso.
  3. Throw the remaining sheet length over either of your shoulders and bring it back to your waist behind your back. Safety pin the shoulder-wrapped piece to the part of the sheet you previously wrapped around your torso.

Making a Toga for Women

  1. Fold two separate bed sheets lengthways and fold in the sides of the sheets so both are no wider than you are. Fold the bottom of each folded bed sheet up a foot shorter than your height. Safety pin all the folded sections of the sheets.
  2. Lay both bed sheets on top of each other so the top of the sheets meet. Slide a separate shower curtain ring through both top two corners of the bed sheets. Pull them through enough to tie a knot. The shower rings will rest on your shoulders when you put the toga on and keep both the back and front of the toga together.
  3. Pull the combined sheets over your head, with a shower ring resting on each of your shoulders. Pin both sides of the sheet around your waist, making the toga as tight fitting as you like. While the toga will have draped neckline, you can also pin it up until you feel comfortable.
