Report for June 2009
June's meeting commenced as usual with singing Jerusalem. Several Birthday sprays were presented including a special bouquet to Ann Diamond who celebrates her 80th birthday this month. Ann has been a member of the W.I. for many years and has served for 10 years in the past as president.
There was much to discuss including a quiz night which our team of 4 came joined second in and the W.I Emergency group exercise. Next month is an outing in David Powell's vintage bus to The teapot Island at Yalding with lunch and a cream tea. It all sounds like a very nice day out, lets hope the sun shines!!
The speaker we had booked to tell us of the history of Dreamland at Margate had to cancel so we were fortunate to find a new speaker on the W.I circuit Ms Jackie Aviolet. This amusing lady runs a small plant nursery and is potty about plants and flowers that are named after people. She went around us all asking our first names and then advised us of a flower carrying that name.
We will not have a meeting at the hall for July as its the outing and August 5th we are all invited to a garden party at Sue Mayllam's . Next meeting in the hall is 2nd September when Peter Morgan gives a talk on local history.
Heather Northfield and Jenny Sargent.
