Report for June 2007
Members of Lynsted-w-Teynham W.I. were welcomed to their June meeting by the President Mrs. Ann Diamond. June Ackland and Ann Diamond celebrate their birthdays this month and each received a spray of flowers. The winner of the Group Quiz was Bocton Hill W.I. who will now go through to the final in October. Cherry Day is on the 22nd July, and the competition is for a recipe using summer fruits. On the 15th July, Sue Maylam will be holding a barbecue for family and friend and members of Lynsted-w-Teynham W.I.
The speaker for the afternoon was Brian Doorne whose subject was “Kent Waterways and Water Mills.” After giving a brief history of corn grinding, Mr. Doorne took us on a journey along the River Stour from Pegwell Bay to Canterbury. Mr. Doorne illustrated his talk with some lovely slides of views along the river. Sadly, many of the water mills have disappeared, but some have been converted into homes and riverside apartments. Ann Diamond then gave a vote of thanks to Mr. Doorne for a very interesting talk about a disappearing part of Kent History.
The members then enjoyed refreshments prepared by Marlene Disney and Betty Bushell. The winner of the competition was Joyce Playford and a Red Rose entered by Marian Cooke was the winner of the Flower of the Month.
There is no meeting of Lynsted-w-Teynham W.I. in July.
Joyce Playford
