JUNE 2006 MEETING REPORT

After welcoming members to the June meeting the President, Bid Trim, presented birthday sprays to Ann Diamond and June Ackurst.  Two members, Jean Stainton and Bid Trim had visited the gardens at Great Dixter with other members from the East Kent Federation and reported having a wonderful time.  The East Kent Federation holiday took place at Denman College and five of our members attended.  They took part in cooking, music and art and enjoyed meeting other W.I. members from all over East Kent.

Bid trim then introduced the speaker Mr. Budell whose talk was entitled “Orphans of the Ukraine”.  Mr. Budell spoke first of how he became involved with the charity, British Humanities Aid.  He then gave a brief history of the Ukraine and explained some of the economic and political reasons for the need for aid. We then saw slides of the convoys of vans that travelled across Europe and of the country and people of Ukraine.  He was thanked by Joyce Brightman and wished every success for the future.

Refreshments were then served and many of the members took the opportunity to talk to Mr. Budell.  Members were then reminded of the trip on the 5th of July and the Barbeque on the 16th of July. There will be no Stitch and Craft meeting until September but the Book Group and Ladies Who Lunch will meet as usual. The Garden Party will take place on the 9th August.

The next meeting of Lynsted-w-Teynham W.I. will take place on the 6th September at 2.15pm at the Labour Hall.
