JULY and AUGUST 2006 REPORT
The W.I. took full advantage of the summer weather in July and August. Starting with a walk at the end of June, six members enjoyed a walk from Cellar Hill to the Plough at Lewson Street. They enjoyed a pub lunch and talked about the things that had changed and the things that they remembered from their childhood days playing in the surrounding countryside. The plan is to repeat the experience in the autumn when more members will be able to join in.
On the 5th of July, members gathered to go on their trip to Yalding Organic Gardens. On arrival a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide took us on a tour of the gardens that they cultivate there. The herb garden was very interesting, and we learned of the different herbs and their uses in medicine and cooking. Then there was the Knott Garden and the early orchards from Tudor times, the Cottagers Garden and an Allotment showing the cultivation of modern vegetables and flowers . After lunch, members could walk round and buy plants to grow in their own garden.
On the 16th July, friends and family gathered for the annual Barbeque held in the garden of Mrs. Sue Maylam. It was a lovely hot afternoon and all had a good time. The Book Group took advantage of the good weather and held their meeting out in the garden. Sixteen members were at the meeting, held by Mrs. Bid Trim, to decide the entertainment for the Group meeting in October a programme was eventually decided upon and rehearsals will be in September.
The weather was still fine and warm for the Garden Party in August and members were able to sit in the garden and enjoy all the tea and cakes provided. A vote of thanks was given to Sue Maylam for the use of her garden for the Garden Party and the Barbeque.
The next meeting of Lynsted-w-Teynham W.I. will be on the 6th September at 2.15pm at the Labour Hall.
