Meeting Report for 2nd July 2008

The July meeting took the form of a coach outing to Stelling Minnis. The coach driver took a very scenic route through the beautiful East Kent countryside stopping at several viewing points on the way. As the coach arrived at Stelling Minnis the heavens opened and everyone made a dash for the pub before getting too soaked. The landlord of The Rose and Crown greeted our group warmly and a pre-lunch aperitif was served. The members were very impressed with the food which is all 'home cooked' and good conversation and friendship made for a very enjoyable time. After lunch a tour of Davison's Mill was arranged, Mr George Poile and his 3 assistants gave a fascinating guide around this old mill. The mill is in beautiful condition and fully restored and maintained by its team of volunteers, it was a working flour mill until 1970. Several members achieved the full ascent to the top of the mill including Mrs Phil Coppins (age 92) who didn’t want to miss out on anything!!

The first of the art classes with artist Pauline Trower started Weds. 9th July, a very busy afternoon starting our works of art took place. We are painting poppies using the wet-on-wet water colour technique, its fascinating to see what a lot is involved and how it all develops.

An evening soiree is the next social event at Bid Trims on the 30th July @ 7.30pm.

Meanwhile ladies that lunch meet at The Dover Castle 12.30 on 23rd July.

We do not have a meeting in the hall at the in August but have our annual garden party, kindly hosted by Sue Maylam on 13th August at 2.0pm. Let’s hope the sun shines!
