“The Pirates of the Caribbean would have been proud of some of the outfits on show at Lynsted fete on Bank Holiday Monday.
The sea-themed day was a great success, with children and adults joining in the fun, dressing up as smugglers, surfers, mermaids and fish.
Events included a live performance from the UK Paper Concert Band, a tug of war, awards for the winners of the best sea-themed costumes and the best dressed stall and various childrens’ races.
The poop deck played host to Rear Admiral Tony Hanscombe performing his conjuring tricks and June the storyteller.
The fete was organised and run by the the Lynsted Fete committee, and held at Lynsted Court Meadow.  The committee chairman, David Bage, said: “We had some rain before the fete, but while we were setting up we were lucky to have sunshine.
“I would like to thank all the people that attended and we really appreciate them turning up, because some must have come through the rain.
!obviously, the rain decreased our numbers, we only had about two thirds of the people come as we have had in previous years.”
As normal, there was a grand draw with prizes ranging from £100 to a box of chocolates.
There were displays by the Association of Men of Kent and Kentish Men, the
Lynsted with Kingsdown Society, the Malawi Project, the Community Orchard Group and the Lynsted Community Website.

Winners were as follows:
Sea-themed costumes: Best Girl: Jessica Bell and Best Boy: James Haffenden/Freddie Bell; Best Woman: Helen Sullivan and Best Man: Paul Berry; Best Stall: produce and craft stall.
If you ideas for the 2007 fete, or would like to join the organisers, the committee would be pleased to hear from you..
