Websites that got my attention

From time to time I come across websites that are entertaining or otherwise eye-opening. There is no rhyme nor reason to their choice - if you have others of similar interest that you think others might enjoy, let me know.

  1. DO YOU FEEL THE NEED TO SMILE BY THE END OF THE WEEK? If you have a broadband connection, you might like to spend four or five minutes watching extracts from the wierder news items during the week, courtesy of the BBC on this link - Odd News. Click on “ODD BOX” at the top right of the page. You will find several other interesting stories from that page too
  2. The complete works of Charles Darwin - really! You can listen to all his works or read them from the original publication.
  3. Ever wondered what the average house prices in your region? or find out what is planned for the Thames Gateway? Government website.
  4. You have heard about building on ‘brownfield sites’ - so how does your local authority compare? Swale is 275th out of 354, for example - CPRE website
  5. Hilarious website in which “bunnies” summarise famous films in 30 seconds. War of the Worlds, Casablanca, Its a Wonderful Life, Alien....etc
  6. Learn about your energy-saving alternatives at home and at work from the Energy Saving Trust.
  7. Households along Greenstreet recently received a questionnaire about where improvemnts might be made. Here are some ideas about what other communities have done that may surprise - ranging from removing clutter (BBC) and Resurgence reports on “naked streets”, and reducing light saturation (CPRE Action Plan).
