Lynsted Weather Station Weather conditions measured in the Parish of Lynsted. This weather station is a bit of fun and maintained on a hobby basis; it is probably a good indicator for the next 12 hours or so in the local area of Lynsted, Kingsdown, Teynham, Bapchild, and Norton.  Enjoy!

Diary Notes:
1 - When we have a High Pressure system/ridge settling over this part of Kent, the weather-station reading in winter and spring can be a bit misleading.  So far in 2011 (written end July) we have seen this happen three times - the first time the forecast was “fine” (but looking out the window into drizzle and fog); the second time “settled fine” (but the view was grey and mizzley); the third time threatened rain and storms but only got a bit cloudy).  This may be a consequence of proximity of the sea and the ‘block’ created by the Northern Downs to the South of us.  Certainly, if we get northerlies we get more extreme versions of ‘local weather’.
Otherwise, not bad!
2 - With so much talk about domestic wind power generation, you may find the average wind-speeds helpful.  These give you some idea about which turbines to go for and the likely generation and pay-back period; or whether alternative energy options might suit you and your property better.  Conversion of average kph to m/s (metres per second) = multiply kph by 0.277777778 (thus 6 kph is the same as 1.67 m/s). Given that the minimum average wind speed recommended for wind-power is 5 m/s, this suggests our weather-station location is not ideal (too many trees)!  Locations in our area have guide speeds of between 2.8 m/s (suburban) and 4.3 m/s (rural).  Kingsdown area suggests figures of 3.1 - 4.7 m/s (suburban vs rural).  So, it may make more sense as you get into the North Downs (AONB restrictions, if any, permitting).
3 - Temperature errors:  It has been pointed out that this weather station often returns a daytime temperature above the actual temperature (by up to 3oC)  - this is most likely a result of reflection from a nearby structure.  So, please discount daytime temperatures in sunlight.  Sometime, I will look at re-siting or inserting a screen.

HOWEVER!  Check your postcode at http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/Generate-your-own-energy/Wind-turbines/Wind-Speed-Prediction - for an idea.
