Christmas Day tradition in our household dictates that mulled wine is ready and waiting for the arrival of the family after their bell ringing duties. Also after our Boxing Day walk. For the past couple of years I have replaced this with mulled cranberry juice so the children can also have a glass or two. It still fills the house with that wonderful smell of Christmas spices and is great for those who have to drive.
Ingredients:
I carton (1 litre) cranberry juice
1 cinnamon stick
4 tablespoons fresh cranberries
¼ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
4 orange slices
8 whole cloves
Method:
- Place all the ingredients into a large saucepan and heat until it is almost boiling.
- Cover and reduce heat and simmer for approx 10 mins.
- Serve hot (or chilled if that is your preference).
I should like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have contacted me over the year with feedback on this column. As I sit typing away in my lonely garret it warms my heart to know that someone is reading it!
