HEY! How about you? ... A message from the leadership team at Lynsted Church.
What’s On and How Can I Help? Youth Work and How Can I Help? Mid-week Friendship & Fare Exchange
Over the years, the numbers attending church have sadly dwindled; perhaps because some traditions and old styles may now seem outdated or irrelevant, and service times can be unpopular or incompatible with busy family life.
But in a world so full of troubles – division, disillusionment, sadness and despair, we would ask you to step aside for just a moment – to take time out –to consider re-connecting to the Source of goodness, healing, blessing and life... to get back in touch with God – or find Him for the first time – the God who can bring healing and change into the negative circumstances of our life – restore harmony, bring peace, give wisdom, or redirect a wayward path – the God who says He wants to ‘prosper you, not harm you’ – the God who sees and cares about the details of our life and longs for us to allow that connection, through which his reviving and renewing Spirit can be poured. For where our roots lie, there comes our strength:
‘Blessed is the man’ whose roots are in the Lord, for ‘He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.’ (Ps 1)
But also, a church that’s connected to God, is also called to connect to the people. So here at Lynsted we want to be a church that is relevant, that makes an effective contribution to meeting the needs of our community – a church that reflects the mind and heart of God in the way we respond and reach out to others – valuing, encouraging and supporting one another, young and old, working and walking together through life.
But now more than ever, we need YOUR HELP! We need YOU to be a part also, of the life and growth of our church that desires to serve God and be a blessing to our community.
And so we ask for you to consider.....
..... reconnecting with God – (ASK about the ‘START’ study course details, or just COME ALONG one Sunday – bring a friend! Or talk to a member of the ministry team listed below) ..... becoming a part of what God is doing though the church in Lynsted. Maybe there are practical ways you could be involved – we need more pairs of hands! See below for what’s going on and how YOU might be able to help)
We look forward to welcoming YOU
“He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honour.” Proverbs 21 vs 21

SERVICES
Regular morning services are currently at 9am – this early time enables us to see more of Revd Steve as he attempts to be in three or more villages at once on Sundays!
1st Sunday, a quiet, traditional ‘Book of Common Prayer’ service - without singing. Evening ‘Quest’ – refreshments at 7pm followed by a more modern style time of discussion, learning and song 2nd Sunday, informal modern style family worship led by a member of the team. 3rd Sunday, Breakfast Praise - bacon rolls and coffee followed by a less formal gathering in the community room 4th Sunday, traditional Holy Communion service
Weekly from September: 6 – 6.35pm - informal evening praise - all age worship & refreshments. Followed by youth club 13-19’s 7 - 8.30pm
Children are always welcome at any service. We have a children’s corner where younger children can sit with books, soft toys and colouring activities– or a quiet area at the back in the community room if need be. The kitchen and loo are easily accessible throughout the service, with disabled access also. The youth facilities (table tennis, table football, air hockey, pool table) are available for use by older children after the service if desired.
HOW CAN I HELP?
- We need more helpers to make/serve the tea & coffee! Perhaps you could be on the rota to help every now and then?
- We like someone to be at the door to hand out the service sheets and hymn books. Would you help with this?
- Do you like to read? If you would be happy to read a short Bible reading in a service now and then, perhaps you could be on the reading rota.
- Or simply COME ALONG and do absolutely NOTHING!! Your presence alone will always be an encouragement to us.

YOUTH WORK... ‘ENGAGING WITH OUR TEENAGERS!’
From SEPTEMBER, the young people will be involved in a NEW STYLE REGULAR 6 o’clock EVENING WORSHIP time from 6.00 - 6.35pm (for ALL ages, not just youth!) – followed by tea time refreshments for everyone until 7pm – followed by YOUTH CLUB 13 – 19’s till 8.30pm.
HOW CAN I HELP?
- Encourage the young people just by coming along to the new 6 o clock service and showing an interest in their contribution of music and fresh ideas
- Regardless of your AGE! we are currently developing a new MUSIC GROUP to lead modern style songs in this weekly evening 6 o clock service. If you can SING or PLAY AN INSTRUMENT and would like to be involved, please let JO know (521714)
- We particularly need a DRUMMER (with drums!) or confident percussionist please!
So far we have keyboard, bass, 1 or 2 guitars, flute and some voices but we NEED OTHERS so we can mix and match and have a regular number to call upon!
- If you think you have what it takes to help with YOUTH WORK generally, (evenings) and /or with driving the minibus occasionally, please speak to JO or TIM (521714) (All youth workers subject to CRB checks of course)
- We will need a helping hand with running the REFRESHMENTS at the new 6 o clock Sunday evening service. Could you be part of a team that makes/provides any cakes, biscuits etc? Could you help serve tea & coffee? Could you help with clearing up in the kitchen? Rota being formed very soon so please let Jo know if you can help in ANY WAY. A hospitality fund will assist with costs.

MID- WEEK FRIENDSHIP drop-in LUNCH & ‘fare - exchange’ Thursdays 12 – 2pm Lynsted Church
How many of us have the odd practical item in good condition lying around cluttering the place up that we would be happy to give to a worthy home if someone came and picked it up?
And how often do we know someone who needs something but doesn’t want to buy from new or spend a fortune? a young person setting up a flat? or a new addition to the family?
Not everybody has access to e-bay after all!
So why not drop in for home - made soup and crusty bread - and a pot of tea and PERUSE OR ADD YOUR ITEMS to the WHAT’S ON OFFER or the WHAT’S WANTED board in Lynsted Church.
OR simply come for the lunch and company! And enjoy a peaceful hour in your beautiful historical village church building.
If you would like to come for the friendship drop-in lunch but have no transport, please let us know and transport may be able to be arranged.
HOW CAN I HELP?
- Would you help with making or serving soup & rolls and pots of tea?
- Could you ever help with transport or offer to drive the minibus if required?
- Might you be able to help collect or drop off items locally now and again?
