Block pop-up windows in your browser

A pop-up blocker is a utility that prevents small additional windows from opening when you visit Web pages. Some Web sites use these small windows to display helpful information, but many pop-up windows contain advertisements or offensive content. Malicious attackers also may use pop-up windows disguised as special offers to install malicious code on your computer.

Windows XP SP2 users can take advantage of the Pop-up Blocker built into Internet Explorer. Users of earlier versions of Windows can use the free MSN toolbar to block pop-up-up windows.

Mozilla Firefox has a popup blocker installed by default. If you want to allow popups then you can by following the following instructions:

Select the Allowed Sites, where pop-ups are needed for your favourite sites to work. For example, I have had to allow pop-ups to use the neighbourhood statistics site - www.neighbourhood.statistics.gov.uk. As a government site, I am happy to allow popups from that site but block every other site!
