UPDATED 30 JUNE 2010 One question that is frequently asked is “are the local Age Concern centres now called Age UK centres.”
The answer is no, all our local Age Concern centres will continue to be Age Concern Centres. Age Concern (England) has joined together with Help the Aged and is now known as Age UK (a national charity). The local Age Concerns haven’t joined together with anyone. They realise that the name Age Concern is recognised and trusted within the local community and value their reputation and independence.
A few Age Concern centres in other areas have decided to join the new charity and have changed their name to Age UK, but our local centres have no plans to do so at this time.
If people donate to Age UK (or Age Concern as it was) the money doesn’t always reach a local centre, unless you request the money go to a specific Age Concern it will go to support Age UK nationally.
Local Age Concern Centres would find it hard to survive without the help and support of their volunteers, centres are currently looking for volunteers who could help with a wide range of tasks; if you have a little time to spare and would like to find out about volunteering please call Gill Ball on 07735556811
